At Brookfield Academy Livonia children develop the skills they need to excel as learners and to succeed in life using the Montessori approach of self-directed learning, exploration, and individualized educational experiences.
Toddler Child Care (15 months to 2.9 years)
In our toddler child care program, each child is encouraged to exercise their growing autonomy and expanding language in carefully prepared, safe, and orderly surroundings. Our planned environment space promotes exploration, independence, order, and freedom of choice and movement.
Our Montessori curriculum led by experienced teachers includes language acquisition and development, developing order, age-appropriate motor development, and care of self and of the environment.
Our toddler child care program is available from 7:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. daily, twelve months of the year with occasional closings for holidays and school in-service events.
Preschool / Pre-Primary (Ages 2.9 – 6)
The three-year cycle in our Montessori preschool or pre-primary classroom allows 3-6 year old children the opportunities to learn from each other, to act as role models for learning, and to respond to their natural drive to work. This stimulating, cooperative atmosphere allows the children to develop at their individual rate over the three-year period, and to take each subject of study to a deeper level of understanding with each year.
Our Montessori preschool and Kindergarten curriculum focuses on relevant academic areas for this stage – motor skills, socialization, self-esteem, independence, a sense or order, concentration, and cooperation. Additional enrichment activities include physical education, Spanish, and music.
Elementary School (Grades 1 – 5)
Our Montessori elementary school & education program draws upon the independence of the student, encouraging self-directed study and independent research while developing skills and knowledge through one-on-one instruction and small group lessons. Students learn how to make decisions, solve problems and manage their time within the context of core curriculum – mathematics, geometry, science, language arts, history, and geography.
Additional enrichment classes include art, physical education, music, technology & media, and Spanish. We value the opportunity to connect with families at field trips, fun family nights, and our annual Holiday Concert and Spring Talent Show.
Before & After School Care and School’s Out (Club Brookfield)
The before & after school care and the School’s Out program offers high-quality, nurturing experiences that build on your child’s day in a more relaxed and less structured environment. Activities include science and nature projects, arts and crafts, independent reading, free playtime, organized games, elementary homework session and access to special tutoring and various enrichment programs.
- Before School: 7:00 to 9:00 a.m.
- After School: 3:00 to 6:00 p.m.
Enrichments & Extracurricular Activities
Brookfield Academy encourages children to discover who they are and to pursue their own interests. Our enrichment and extracurricular activities fosters a child’s desire for new challenges and opportunities that celebrate their expanding world.
We currently offer book club for preschool and elementary, chess for K-3, Young Rembrandt’s Art for preschool and elementary, indoor hockey skills for preschool and elementary, sewing and quilting for K-3, and yoga and golf for both preschool and elementary, and Engineering for Kids. New programs are always being explored and we welcome suggestions.
For care beyond the activity times, please enroll in our Club Brookfield program.
Summer Preschool Program (Camp Explorations)
The Preschool Summer Program at Brookfield Academy Livonia Campus offers a continuation of Montessori education for children ages 3-6, including children who will enter first grade in September. The program opens at 7 a.m. for child care until 9 a.m. when Montessori Morning begins. Children will explore and reinforce Montessori lessons with greatest emphasis on mathematics and language learning. After a break for lunch, the afternoon includes nap time for children who need a nap and water play in our “Sprayola” (a large crayon-shaped sprayer on a concrete splashpad), structured and free play time, arts and crafts, story time and some additional Montessori work. Snacks are provided and children bring lunch from home. The program is staffed with Brookfield Academy Livonia staff over a period of 9 weeks from June 20 through August 19, 2016. For more information please call the school office at 734-464-2789. A link to our registration form is also provided.
